How To Play Blues Guitar

You undoubtedly have heard someone play the blues. Its got a one of a kind sound. As a musician I love getting in the groove and jamming, by myself but its even better with my friends. To play impromptu, a guitarist has be comfortable with what he or she is doing. If you’re comfortable you’re more likely to bust out those solos when the time comes. To get comfortable you need practice. If you’re looking for blues guitar lessons this is the place.

Studying blues guitar takes time, or any instrument for that matter. But a lot of people don’t have “extra” time laying around. Wouldn’t it be great if lessons from an instructor fit into your schedule? Griff Hamlin, as seen in the photo, has created a DVD set with hours of professional, high quality video, tailored into 20 minute practice lessons. The videos are divided up by chapter and cover every single note in the book. There are even some extra videos for some great fun licks and tricks.

The main book gives you all of the scales, techniques,
theory, and tricks that you’ll need. It follows a
simple and logical progression. Each chapter builds on
the one before it. At the end of each chapter, you’ll
be told precisely what you need to be able to do before
moving on to the next chapter. You can’t fail with this.

The greatest part, however, is the audio examples and jam
tracks. Every audio example comes with a full speed
and slow speed version, so you can play along easily
at first, and pick up the pace as you improve.

There are also 4 complete solos that really sound like
they are from your favorite blues tracks. You could
memorize them and totally use them at your next blues
jam or gig. They demonstrate all of the techniques
throughout the book, and give a very good “real world”
example of the techniques and methodology.

Also, there are 6 jam tracks that come with the
package, so once you get going you can just play
along with the band. And the tracks are really first-rate
quality, just like you’re jamming with a real band.
It’s a lot of fun.

As a bonus Griff has added an excellent book jam-packed with turnaround and ending licks. Some of them are
pretty straight forward blues, but a couple of them
are real head-turners.

As you can tell, I’m really impressed with this
package as a whole. The testimonials on the website
prove that I’m not alone. This is a very well planned, thoroughly refined, and skillfully made system.

Don’t just take my word for it though, keep reading:

Why You Should Have A Guitar Buyers Guide

Buying is an important decision for an aspiring musician. There are a number of guitars to choose from, acoustic, electric, acoustic electric, and classical guitars to name a few. Other varieties include entry-level axes, professional level axes, humbucking pickups, and single coil pickups, which makes it more difficult for a neophyte. That is why getting a guitar buyers guide is very important.Buying a guitar is an important and difficult decision for any aspiring musician. There are acoustic guitars, electric guitars, and acoustic electrics as well as classical guitars. There are entry-level axes, professional level axes, humbucking pickups, single coil pickups – the variety of guitars is absolutely overwhelming to the neophyte. That is why picking up a guitar buyers guide can be such a helpful thing to do.

There are many different guitar buyers guides out there, so try to find the one that is right for you. If there’s one thing that is true about guitar players and musicians in general it is that they like to give advice. Some guitarist buyers guides are simply made by fans who are anxious to share their experience with newcomers. These give some great tips about what guitars to buy and which ones to avoid, as well as what features to look for in a beginning model.

Others prefer to get a buyers guide from professional music houses or a major music retailer. It gives you an overview of the different types of guitars and tells you what you can get in return for your money, which is very helpful.Other people prefer to get a guitar buyers guide from one of the professional music houses or a major music retailer. For example, the Guitar Center buyers guide is an excellent source that is frequently consulted by new musicians. It gives the lowdown on the different types of guitars and tells you what you can expect for your money.

Another important thing is to bring along an experienced guitarist friend with you when you buy a guitar especially if you are looking at used guitars. Having a buyers guide and a friend by your side gives you a head start and nothing can go wrong. Because there are some things a buyers guide cannot tell you that an experienced guitar player can, like signs of wear and tear.

With or without a guitar buyers guide, the most important thing is to start playing. Take your time picking out a guitar, but don’t take too much time. If you get involved in the instrument and actually get good at it, the chances are that you’ll eventually switch up to a better guitar anyway. Think about this as your starting instrument. Make sure that it is good enough for you to play on, but don’t worry about getting the best. You can always do that later.

Advice For Buying Guitar Accessories

Do you know a serious guitar player? If you do, you probably want to get them something that they will find useful when you want to buy them a gift. Though guitar accessories are always a great idea, this can be a bit tricky. A newer player may not care what you get, as long as they can use it, but the seasoned or long time player may be a bit more picky about what they will use and what might end up in the closet. You may have to do some detective work before you go out shopping for the best accessories for guitars.

You have to examine what players need before you go out shopping for the best guitar accessories. Most of them use picks because they prefer the sound as apposed to using the fingers, which is painful anyway, and there are some that don?t use picks. Picks are the best choice in buying accessories as most players go through them rather quickly.

However, you do have to be sure that you get the right size of pick. They come in different thicknesses, and that information should be printed right on the pick. If you want to get picks, steal one or have a peak to see which ones they use. If you buy the wrong size, they may never use them.

If you want to spend on guitar accessories for players, you can get them new pick-ups for their favorite guitar. But you have to be careful as many are made for specific reasons.

In this case, you have to know the specific type they might want to have or you should probably go with something else. It is easy enough to get a musician to talk about guitar accessories that they like, so find a way to work it into the conversation. You may get the information you need rather quickly.

There are many guitar accessories that many would like to have, pick guards, strings or straps are among them. Just be sure to know what brand and style of guitar they play and always ask for recommendations.

Buying guitar accessories can be a lot of fun, and the right items will be appreciated gifts. Just make sure you know what you are getting and nothing can g wrong.

Superior Guitar Source

The Annihilation of Magnificence

If you enjoyed this article, please visit Superior Guitar Source.

The destruction of nature and all its beauty is a daily occurrence. The dumping of chemicals in rivers, mounting garbage dumps, pollution caused by cars and factories are a sampling of the catastrophic effects of the human race on the environment. This destruction takes many forms, and most of it is caused by human action. One extreme is the ethical destruction of nature, which is necessary to ensure the continued existence of human life. The destruction of trees or a field to build homes or construct infrastructures like water, electrical, and sewage grids, is necessary to perpetuate human life. The other extreme is the unethical destruction of nature whose negative impact is not justified by the slight, if any, positive result that it produces. This unethical destruction is easily averted through alternate and more ethical environmental protection tactics. The only problem is that very few people have a concept of ethics and even less people care about their lack of ethics. While some people think they have an ethical obligation to our environment, others flagrantly throw trash out of the window while driving and throw recyclables in the trash out of plain laziness. The lack of a concept of environmental ethics and a general idea of what is ethical and unethical about the use of our beautiful planet is the cause of the terrible destruction that is currently being caused by the human race everyday and the only way that something can be done about it is if every individual takes on their environmental responsibility.

Environmental ethics produces the greatest good for the greatest number of things involved, or the least harm for the greatest number of things involved. That means if something is destructive, that destruction has to do some good for the people and things involved. If that good outweighs the destruction involved in the action or actions then the destruction is ethical. That which is unethical produces the greatest harm for the greatest number of things involved, or the least good for the fewest number of things involved. That means any destruction that is involved in an action that outweighs the good it may or may not produce is not ethical. A perfect example of unethical behavior is described in this selection authored by the first major U.S. novelist James Fenimore Cooper, author of The Pioneers (1823). In this section of The Pioneers, the entire village is participating in the annual “slaughter of the pigeons” where they shoot and kill thousands of pigeons. “Well! The Lord won’t see the waste of his creaters for nothing and right will be done to the pigeons, as well as others, by-and-by.–There’s Mr. Oliver, as bad as the rest of them, firing into the flocks as if he was shooting down nothing but the Mingo warriors” (Quoted in Cooper 12).

Obviously, shooting down birds is not comparable to shooting down Mingo warriors in today’s society, but the situation that has to be looked at here is what is ethical and what is unethical about the use of the environment and its resources. The destruction of a few trees to build a community swimming pool is an ethical undertaking. It is ethical because a community swimming pool creates results that are more positive as pleasure from swimming and jobs to run the pool than negative results. The destruction of a few square miles of trees to build a chemical factory next to a river is unethical. This is unethical because the destruction of hundreds of trees to build a chemical plant next to a river, which will just be polluted by the chemical plant, is going to create results that are more negative for the people and things involved than positive results. A real example of whether or not a certain piece of land should be used for human needs is in the following quote from John Muir (1838-1914), American naturalist, explorer, and writer and an influential conservationist, who worked to preserve wilderness areas and wildlife from commercial exploitation and destruction. In this quote, the Hetch Hetchy Valley is under threat of being dammed and turned into a reservoir. The question is whether this beautiful valley should be turned into a reservoir to save some money or is it necessary? “These temple destroyers, devotees of ravaging commercialism, seem to have a perfect contempt for Nature, and, instead of lifting their eyes to the God of the mountains, lift them to the Almighty Dollar” (Muir 26). In this quote, the people involved were confronted with a choice. Should we destroy this valley by filling it water and turning it into a reservoir thereby saving time and money that could be spent on other works, or should we use that time and money to save the valley, and move our reservoir to some other less beautiful, less used area? This is a real problem in the world, and this blatant disregard for the well-being of nature shows a brazen lack of ethics. There is a widespread idea that the destruction of nature does not concern the everyday man or woman.

The concept of ethics is very subjective, and what is ethical for one person or society is occasionally unethical for another and vice versa so, agreement is hard to find on this issue. What needs to happen is a reality check. If humanity continues this current path of assured destruction of nature, there will be no place left to call home. So, what is the solution or solutions to this problem? Well, the following quote gives some idea of a solution.

Environmental ethics is a kind of ethics arising from a concern with an earth, which is on the verge of losing balance. Continual degradation of natural resources, shortage of renewable resources, El Nino, global changes in biological, earth, and chemical circulations and climatic changes, depletion of the ozone layer, acid rain and other environmental problems have propelled people to the awareness that these grave crises have been caused by human beings themselves. Humankind has mistreated nature and therefore must brave these crises by taking up responsibilities and obligations towards nature. Therefore, environmental ethics gives out the warning to people that they must treat nature nicely and that otherwise they will not be able to forestall the crises. (Xu 2-3)

Environmental ethics relies on every individual exercising environmental responsibility. How can a sense of responsibility be instilled in somebody? Well first, the person in question has to actually have the knowledge that something is going on. If there is a lack of knowledge that something is occurring then there is room for deniability, ignorance is bliss. Therefore, the first solution is education in any form possible. There needs to be education from the moment someone starts school all the way through college. If there is no education being delivered about what is going on in the environment then how will they ever have the thought of doing something about it? The next step would be giving some kind of incentive. If the person being talked to is already educated about the situations occurring in the environment then that person needs a reason to do something about it. “Sure, all this stuff is happening in the environment, but why should I do anything about it?” Well, let this person know how the environment directly affects him. How is this going to have a direct impact on his life? If that can be proved to him then you can inspire him to do something about the problem. Once this person has the data on the problems in the environment and he is inspired to do something about these problems then he needs something to do. If he has something he can easily do about this problem then he probably would, unless he was fundamentally unethical.

The human race is destroying nature and it is occurring every moment of every second of every day. There are two types of destruction. There is the kind that does not produce any positive result, or very little positive result, which is unethical destruction. There is also the kind where there is an overwhelming positive result associated with the destruction, and that is the ethical kind. The kind that needs to be focused on is the ethical kind, and the kind that needs to be avoided is the unethical kind. Currently, many people do not know the difference between the two, and this ignorance continuously helps in the destruction of our environment. On the other hand, there is a group of people in the world who recognize the importance of the environment, and are willing to protect it and fight for it at all costs. These people know the difference between unethical and ethical destruction very well. The only collective group on the planet that can do anything about the destruction of our environment is the human race. What needs to be done is education on the current environmental situation. The people in this world need a reason to do something, and they cannot believe that someone else will take care of the environment for them or that it is someone else’s responsibility. It is America’s responsibility to do something about the environmental state of the planet, it is the United Kingdom’s job to do something about it, and it is every single citizen’s job on this Earth to do something about it. If something is not done about the environment today and every day after today, we will be in big trouble later down the road.

Electric Guitar Secrets

Many of you have been searching for a highly qualified guitar instructor who can guide you from beginner through professional guitarist.

I have played guitar since age 12, but mostly I have been self-taught. I have probably bought every Mel Bay and Les Paul instruction book ever published! I’m sad to report that they did not help me all that much. I learned some basic chords from the old C&W and Folk music lyrics paper covers. That helped me at least be in a small High School group.

However, I kept wanting to learn more in-depth guitar. After 8 years in the USAF, and 3 years in Vietnam, I came home and found myself in a struggle to make a living and develop a life. As a result I kept putting off my old desire to learn guitar.

When I finally retired I had time to devote to learning to play. Well, I got involved in learning to be a Luthier! So, my avocation is now repair and setup of stringed instruments – but I didn’t give up learning how to play.

I bought into a couple of guitar instructional websites, which I won’t name. They were of no help and it was wasted money. Another one I purchased actually decided to quit teaching, and I was stuck with an incomplete course. Then I found guitar secrets.

Ah, after all these years I finally found a qualified and dedicated instructor! His name is Dan Denley. This young man loves guitar and he is the most qualified and dedicated instructor I have ever found. Not only that, he is not just a flash-in-the-pan washed out garageband rocker – Dan knows music as well as guitar, and has a college degree in music. His guitar instructor is the very best!

Dan shows you, in closeup Quicktime videos, exactly where to place your fingers for chords and for every scale. He also follows through with email online videos, in addition to the many DVD videos. He stays with all his students, guiding them skillfully through all the possible problems they may encounter. In addition to that, you can contact him or his assistant Lisa for help at any time by phone or email. This is a Win-Win guitar course that will mold you into an awesome guitar player.

This isn’t just a bunch of hype – I have personally purchased three of Dan’s courses, and I guarantee you, they ARE the best. One of them has 5 DVDs packed full of Dan’s video instructions. That same course also has two CDs full of MP3 tracks. You cannot go wrong if you decide to purchase any of Dan Denley’s Guitar Secrets courses. I hope you will take advantage of this and that you go on to become one of the best in the guitar world!

Drumming And Guitar. How Drumming Helps Any Musician

I love drumming! I just saw some great drummers and I would like to make mention in particular of a drummer that made my feet move and my hair go out like when you get static electricity! Lee Pearson! Whew!

Anyways, I was wanting to write about drumming for folks that might be playing another instrument. Learn about some tools you can use to have better time. Seeing Manolo Badrano and Lee Pearson inspired me to write something to encourage myself and everyone else to play the drums! I love drumming like I already said.

The guitar is, among many things, a percussive instrument! So, channel that rhythm that through the guitar! There’s lot’s of ways to do it. Rhythm is a commonly shared thing and you happen to be fortunate that you can be aligned with that energy!

Another source of recent inspiration and an immediate answer to my question, “how can I incorporate more rhythm into my playing?”, came in the form of an African jazz guitar player by the name of Lionel Loueke! I try to see each note I play like I would hear it on the drums. He reminds me of Richard Bono because they both have amazing voices! (Coincidently, I am also working on my singing, though I have a long way to go)

Playing the guitar with just bass and drums is a great way for a guitarist to focus on their sense of time. It’s very liberating to hear the guitar played like this. One doesn’t have to be flashy to groove really hard. And remember those original ideas too!

And check out Richard Bono and Bobby McFerrin! Wow! It must be what angels sound like! You can find them on Youtube. I mention it because Bobby does some percussion with his voice. It just shows that anything can be a drum.

Learning different drums

If you are playing for fun, you might as well play what you are feeling. So, what about learning all the different things that catch your ear? The congas, bongos, drum set, tablas, pandiero, clave, shakers, djembe, cajon, beatboxing, … Whatever it is. There is something about being able to play one thing and express everything on it. But there is also something about being able to playing everything, too. Because each instrument has something unique and gives a perspective. Just go for it and follow your intuition.

Well, you don’t need to play another instrument to work on your time but it’s fun to switch stuff up. Learning other instruments also helps you be more empathetic with folks that are playing those instruments. Some other thoughts about learning to play guitar. I think my time has improved dramatically since I have started playing drum set and congas. I find myself listening to drums and my ears are opening up evening more. I am starting to understand the drum/bass connection, which is a big deal, too!

In conclusion, learn drums so you can be a better person and a better musician! Happy drumming!

Information On Guitar Part

When learning any new skill you must first learn the fundamentals. What I am here to teach you today is what the electric guitar parts, and what their function is. It is important that you know these parts of the guitar. Along your journey they will be commonly used to make reference and you will definitely want to know what the author is talking about.

I will list out the main parts of the guitar and describe them in detail. They are as follows: the head, tuner, nut, fretboard, position marker, body, pickguard, pickups, pickup selector, tone/volume knob, and the bridge.

The Head
The head of the guitar is typically where the strings are fastened on and the tuning knobs are located. There are however headless guitars where the tuning knobs are located at the base of the guitar, but unless you own one it’s safe to say you are safe from being confused by that.

The heads primary purpose is a location for the tuners and for fastening the strings down, and also for a bit of sustain. When you strum the guitar you can actually feel vibrations in the head, this helps it resonate and give it sustain.

The Tuners
As mentioned before, the tuners are located on the head. The main purpose of the tuner is to allow for a place of attachment for the strings and to be able to twist them to get the proper tuning.

The Nut
The nut is located between where the head is attached to the fretboard on the front side. This is used to elevate the strings from the fretboard so they are suspended in air. It is also used to keep the strings at the proper distance from each other.

The Fretboard
This is what makes the guitar possible. The fretboard is located on the neck of the guitar. Located on the fretboard are the frets, all positioned at precise intervals to give the correct note. Most guitars consist of 22 to 24 frets

The Position Marker
There are typically markers in some form on the fretboard. Usually they are dots separated at specific intervals for a quick reference point to what fret you are on. These markers are generally found on the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, and 12, fret positions and are usually in the form of a dot; except for the 12th fret which is represented with two dots.

The Body
The body of the guitar is attached to the neck. The function of the body is to give tone and sustain, provide the other side of string attachment, house electronics, house switches, house the plugin, and a attachment point for the bridge.

There are many different styles for the guitar body. With each different style comes a different tone and sustain. Along with styles there are different types of woods that produce different tones and sustains.

The Pick Guard
The name pretty much explains itself. The pick guard is not always present in guitars. It is located underneath where the strings are typically strummed to prevent scratching of the guitar body.

The Pickups
The purpose of the pickups is to pick up the magnetic field generated by the vibrating strings and send that signal to an amp through a cable. There are usually two different pickups located on an electric guitar

The Pickup Selector
This is used to change which pickups are being used at the moment. You can typically choose one or the other, or both at the same time.

The Tone/Volume Knob
There is typically a number of knobs located on the body of guitar that will allow you to change the tone and volume of the current pickup selected.

The Bridge
This is the piece of hardware that anchors to the guitar body and provides for a place for the strings to be attached to. This is also where adjustments to the guitars action can be made.

Those are the basics to the guitar! If you’ve read this, you are not ready to move on to the next step in playing guitar.

Chord Progressions

Chord Progressions are the backbone of the song. They are basically a serious of chords played in the same key that make up the song. With the chord progressions as the backbone it sets the rules as to what notes can be played. It determines where the harmonies of the song will be played, and where the melody will be able to go. If the wrong note is played you will be able to pick it out and it will sound completely out of place. The purpose of the chord progression is also to set the tone for the piece of music.

Guitar chord progressions are built upon a note from a musical scale. If you have a 7 note scale, that allows for a chord progression of 7 chords. Say the first note is an A in that scale, you would first play an A chord. Perhaps it is followed by the note of C, in which case you would then play a C chord. With this type of musical system there is no limit to the tones and chord progressions that you can create with this knowledge.

An example of some chord progressions would be: from the key of C: C, Am, Dm, G; from the key of A: A, D, E, A.
As you develop your ear for music, and this is not necessary if you are a beginner but it is some food for thought, you will begin to be able to recognize chord progressions. Progressions are normally referred to by a system of numbers that represents each chord’s place within its key. Previously I mentioned how we’ve seen the scale comes out with seven chords. The chords in this progression are numbered from one to seven represented by roman numerals. Upper case roman numerals are used for Majors, and lower case numerals are used for Minors .
Any amount of chords, even repeating, can be picked out of a key and be used to create a song. As an example, the C Major scale is: I, ii, iii, IV, V, vi, vii, i. These numerals represent the chords C, D, E, F, G, A, B, and C. Let’s say you pick out four chords for a song, such as I, IV, ii, vi. The chords you will then be playing are C, F, Dm, and Am. With this system of music if you wanted to change the key you would change the chords you would play. They would sound exactly same as before, but they would just be in a different pitch and in one of the eleven other keys. This would allow someone with a different vocal ability to sing the same song, but in a key that fits their voice most properly.
