How To Play Electric Guitar

OK. So you finally stopped looking at her through the window! The noble head, that shapely neck and the curvaceous body. You went into the shop and you bought your first Electric Guitar and now you are going to make wonderful music with her!

Luckily, unlike some relationships, the electric guitar is not hard to get along with so long as you follow some simple guidelines.

First of all, please don’t make the same mistake that I made. I played guitar for years without taking any proper lessons and I could never play a song through without getting at least one or two notes wrong. Now there are some fantastic guitarists out there who have never taken music lesson in their life, but they are few and far between. Eventually I took electric guitar lessons and although it took me ages to get out of bad playing habits the lessons finally worked for me.

There are many ways and styles to play electric guitar for electric guitars have a huge range of sounds and nuances. Many of these can be accessed by simply using the volume and tone controls on the instrument and by selecting alternative pick-ups. It is through this amazing range of sounds that the electric guitar has become one of the most popular and influential instruments and this is not surprising when you consider that you can play Heavy Rock, Rock and Roll, Blues, Jazz and even Classical and Contemporary music.

In the main, electric guitars are made of semi- hollow or solid wood build. Perhaps not as popular as it’s solid body counterpart, semi-hollow body guitars create a greater resonance before the sound is passed on via the pick-ups to an amplifier.
The more common solid body electric guitar emits virtually no sound until the vibration of the strings are transferred to an amplifier.

So, if you wish to learn to play electric guitar, find yourself a reputable guitar tutor and you will have somebody who cares whether you learn properly. Your teacher will do their best to instruct you properly and will build you up when your struggling. But, if you don’t fancy face to face tuition or you’re finding it hard to find a good guitar tutor you can always go online for help.

Their are literally thousands of electric guitar courses online. many are free (but remember, you get what you pay for) some are membership sites, some courses you can download to your computer or you can obtain guitar lessons on DVD.

Their are books that you can purchase that will show notations of popular songs, as well as chord diagrams and tabs (individual finger position and other information), strumming patterns and pick variations.

No matter if you want to study jazz, rock, or country style playing, there’s no better option than playing along with more experienced players, although, sometimes experienced players can get impatient with beginners who are jamming with them. But all’s not lost, you can always try using guitar pro software, you can play along with backing tracks and no one will complain if you get it wrong!

Best regards.

Guitar Lessons Online – A Few Tips For The Guitarist

Guitar is one of the most beautiful and versatile instruments in the world. From the soft, beautiful tones of the Classic Guitar to the roaring distortion of a stack of Marshall Amps , there seems to be no limit to the range of sounds the guitar can create . Everyone has his own reasons to learn to play the guitar. Some play for fun and enjoyment and just want to play songs. Some wants to be a professional guitarist and be a part of a rock band or write their own songs.

Some people had the good fortune to have a friend or relative who was able to play the guitar and who was nice enough to give some guitar lessons. However, teaching is a skill which not all of us posses. Some will be the next Andrés Segovia , or Jimi Hendrix . Private guitar instruction is designed to help you achieve your own goals.

Whether electric or acoustic , no matter the style, having a good understanding of the fundamentals of music and music theory, and technique is important . True, many of the world’s most famous guitarists didn’t know a Melodic Major scale from a hole in the ground — but it couldn’t have hurt, could it ? The starting students will stop after their first lesson for most part, and play their music. As they go on, they’ll be able to use their knowledge of chords and scales to play more and more demanding music! Guitar lessons will also include training to improve agility and synchronization, scale and chord theory, ear training, and more.

For a novice, it is important that learning guitar is Fun! Let technical elements be introduced at a later stage and slow pace. Studying your own favorite song is a great opportunity to learn about the theoretical principals behind the music. Studying music theory doesn’t have to be hard — it can be an interesting exploration into what makes a song sound so good !

Advanced guitar students could look for ways to improve their technique , their familiarity of the guitar, or to find innovative ideas to stimulate their passion for the instrument . Most intermediate guitarists reach a plateau in their playing. Without something to stimulate your creativity as a guitar player, you’ll never get past this point.

Students are strongly advised to examine the wide world of guitar playing , not just sticking to their favorite style . A little Jazz might be just the thing to take a singer-songwriter in a great new direction. A few honkytonkin’ Country licks could be great for a metal band’s uninspired guitarist.

Student should also look at composition and song structure , Improvisation (Soloing) in Rock, Metal, Jazz, Country, Blues, Bottleneck (Slide), and other idioms, Finger picking, Hybrid (Nashville) Picking, and other right-hand techniques, Classic Guitar technique, Use of amps, effects, etc. and how they add to the instrument’s tone, History and evolution of the guitar, amps, effects; Visual performance; Experimental, textural, or Noise related playing, etc.

Acoustic Electric Guitar – A Preview At The Essentials

An acoustic electric guitar is actually a two-in-one musical instrument. It combines the features of acoustic guitars and electric guitars. Related to acoustic guitars, the tonal points every acoustic-electric guitar develops on its top edging. Here are a few other main features in this musical instrument.
They have laminated top. In mainly cases, their surface includes some compiled wood pieces glued together. All acoustic electric guitar create a essential yet special tone due their laminated surface.

Several versions of this guitar are built with 2 identical pieces of hard, hi-quality wood. These pieces are however glued at once face by face. Such guitars create prolific sounds, along with well-built constructions. It’s up to the entertainer, which type of electronics he desires in his acoustic-electric guitar.

Acoustic electric guitars equipped with dynamic electronics in general have a special piezo transducer. This is in fact a pickup detecting vibrations within the guitar’s body or its bridge. The piezo transducer also prevents signal leakage/loss under the saddle and sometimes comes with battery-driven preamps that have 3 bands for equalization.

Piezo saddle transducers happen to be common lightweight pickups, which are sometimes used alongside with preamplifiers. These preamps however, are amplifiers boosting weaker signals to make sure they’re used by further equipments. Preamps are built exact inside the instrument’s endpin jack. The entertainer needs to fine-tune the sound as well as volume of your amplifier/preamp.

Acoustic electric guitars also come with dual basis technology that works with a useful piezo transducer and a diminutive mike inside its body. This provides a great lot of amplifications. And this works mostly for those people who pluck at strings rather than plucking strum.

And these guitars never have any moving parts. That’s the reason it is a WYSEEWYG thing among main musical instruments on world. Clever buyers always check the pictures provided by sellers in their article listings.

This helps them be sure that neither the neck, nor the soundboard has warps, cracks, and/or breaks. Seasoned buyers also request of any modifications done to the guitar.

Play Acoustic Guitar

If you want to learn how to play acoustic guitar and are considering buying an acoustic guitar for the first time, here’s some things you would be wise to take into account.

To the new guitarist there can seem to be many types of acoustic guitar to choose from when size, brands and various manufactures are taken into consideration.

So how do you decide which one is right for you?

The first thing you could do is to search online to get an idea of styles, sizes and prices. You will find many review sites online (search google) that will help you to start building up some idea of the acoustic guitar that will suit you.

Of course, the problem with trying to make a choice from your online searches is that you can’t actually handle the guitars that you fancy. So here’s what to do.

Find a good guitar shop (or shops) and see if you can find the model of guitar that you are interested in. In doing this you can get a feel of the guitar and decide if it is good value for money.

In the first instance, decide on whether you want nylon or steel strings. Nylon is good if you want to play Pop, Folk, Latin, and classical tunes and they will be a lot more gentle on your fingers. If you prefer to play rock and country songs, then a steel strung guitar will be a far better choice. Make sure you strum the guitar and and listen carefully to it’s tone. With steel strings this will vary according to the gauge (thickness) of the strings.

Next. The type of material that your guitar is made out of, and how it was made is also decisive. The wood that the guitar is made out of should have been cut, seasoned and dried properly to ensure the best construction and thereby the tone. If these things have not been done properly the result will be poor quality sound. The wood used for top of acoustic guitars (the sound board) can range from plywood or solid spruce. The backs and sides can be made from Rosewood or Mahogany and Mahogany will produce a lighter sound than Rosewood. If you have a friend or acquaintance who knows how to play acoustic guitar, they may know who the good guitar stockists are in your area.

The third thing to consider is the bridge of the guitar. Make sure that this is fitted correctly and shows no signs of warping. This is important as it is the bridge that transmits the sound of the strings to the soundboard. Check the “action” of the guitar by checking the distance between the strings and the fretboard nearest to the body of the guitar. The strings should be as close to the fretboard as possible, but not so close that they “buzz” when played.

OK. Once you have decided which guitar you want, it will be time to go back to the internet to actually buy it. You can make your purchase, safe in the knowledge that you are choosing the guitar you want and that is of good quality and you will save a whole lot of money in the long run.

Good hunting.
