So, you’ve decided to join an elite group and change your life forever? “What!”? I’m talking about becoming a guitarist! If there’s one part of my life I can say changed my whole view? It was learning how to play the guitar. It’s almost impossible to explain. I know, I know! Pretty much everybody wants to learn how to play the guitar. However, there’s a difference between wanting to learn and actually learning how to play the guitar. Finding the right guitar lessons for beginners today is much easier than in years past. Like like anything of quality, teaching techniques improve. When I first learned how to play the guitar there was only a couple of ways. Private Guitar Lessons and VHS video (I won’t count Group Guitar Lessons. Their like private guitar lessons without the individual attention). Today, the techniques and options are far more broad and specialized.
Let’s briefly take a look at the guitar lessons for beginners available today:
Private Guitar Lessons
This has been the the norm for years. It’s still the method of choice for many beginning guitar players. However, there are a couple things to consider. With most private guitar lessons you will have an appointment with your instructor once per week. Hopefully you have understood the lesson plan and have have been practicing. If you have not? Yup, you guessed it! You’ll not be moving on and you will have just wasted your money for that lesson. Another thing to consider is the instructor. This is probably a local guy or gal that has had adequate training and is able to play and teach many styles. However, they are usually an expert in just one genre (Rock, Jazz, Classical, country etc…) If they happen to know a lot about the particular genre you want to learn? Then awesome! If not? You could be at a loss. If you’re the type who needs pushing? This can be a great place to start. However, be prepared to pay in upwards of $10 to $20 per lesson.
DVD’s & Guide Books
This is a great option. The techniques have completely advanced since the first videos years ago. The High Definition quality and camera angles give you quite an advantage over traditional private guitar lessons and VHS lessons of the past. With these types of lessons you can continue your education at your own pace by watching the videos over and over again until you’ve mastered the technique being taught. Also, many DVD guitar lessons come with a guide book for you to follow so you can practice without your computer or TV when those forms of media are not available. You must do your research by reading the reviews though. There are just so many DVD’s out there claiming to teach you the latest techniques that just don’t measure up to the high quality lessons. You know how the old saying goes “You get what you pay for”!
Online Guitar Lessons
This is the new kid on the block. Just like the DVD’s, you can watch the high definition videos over and over again until you get it right. However, there is an advantage over DVD guitar lessons. Online guitar lessons have many different instructors that are experts in all the styles and the guitar lessons are updated continually with the latest techniques. Many online guitar lessons can be very affordable at a cost between $14.95 and $19.95/mo for the high quality lessons. I’ve even seen lessons where you can actually speak to an instructor weekly on video. I can’t believe how far learning the guitar has come.
Hopefully this has cleared things up a bit for you? So, do your research and find the best guitar lessons for beginners out there! Learning how to play the guitar will make life very different for you!
